HISTORY
Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (HPBA)
is an international trade association first
established in 1980 to represent and promote
the interests of the hearth products industry
in North America. In 2001, Hearth Products
Association (HPA) merged with Barbecue Industry
Association (BIA) 2001 to form HPBA. The Association
includes manufacturers, retailers, distributors,
manufacturers' representatives, service and
installation firms, and other companies and
individuals - all having business interests
in and related to the hearth, patio, and barbecue
products industry.
HPBA's members manufacture, import, distribute,
sell, service, and represent products that
include
Factory-built Fireplaces, Gas Logs, Inserts,
and Accessories
Wood, Pellet, Coal, and Gas stoves
Barbecues, Grills, and Accessories
Patio Furniture and Accessories

The Fireplace Institute (FI) and the Wood Energy
Institute (WEI) united to form the Wood Heating
Alliance in 1980. The name was then changed
again in 1983 to the Hearth Products Association
(HPA) a non-profit organization, in order to
better reflect the diversity and range of products
and services within the industry. The name
was changed once more to, Hearth Patio and
Barbecue Association (HPBA) in 2001.
HPBA's
purposes include (but are not limited to):
1. The promotion of education
for the utilization and safe use of solid fuels
and gas as energy sources.
2. The dissemination of information regarding regulatory
concerns, environmental concerns and other
subjects of specific interest to both the industry
and public at large.
3. The fostering of superior design quality, member product performance and services
benefit the public and this industry.
